Language Centre of Tsinghua University successfully held an English Corner themed Confidence in English Communication, facilitated by Christina Yun, on 25 March. The event drew nearly 30 students from the university, all eager to improve their English speaking skills and engage in practical exercises aimed at building confidence.

The event included a speed chat designed to increase confidence, fluency, and comfort in real-world conversations. Participants had the opportunity to engage one-on-one with four different peers in a low-pressure environment, which allowed them to practice English without the fear of judgement. This segment was successful in helping students overcome common speaking barriers and gain greater ease in English conversations.

Additionally, participants joined small group discussions focused on mental preparation techniques, drawing inspiration from athletic competitions and public speaking events. They explored which poses, gestures, and expressions universally convey confidence, with a special focus on body language common in English-speaking cultures. The facilitator also shared useful language chunks to express unapologetic confidence, and offered an improvisation tip for real-life scenarios.

The event concluded with participants sharing positive feedback, noting how valuable and enjoyable the activity had been in boosting their communication skills.
