The Tsinghua English Public Speaking Contest is one of the most popular and widely participated English competitions at Tsinghua. The contest is known for its relevance to contemporary issues, well-organized and engaging format, and competitiveness. It serves as a comprehensive platform for both undergraduate and graduate students to enhance and showcase their English language proficiency, critical thinking, creativity, information literacy, teamwork and communication skills, as well as their self-development abilities.

The contest encourages students to leverage their English language skills to better understand the world, appreciate diverse cultures and humanistic values, and engage in deeper intercultural communication. It has also significantly promoted the development of public English education at Tsinghua. Over the years, the contest has helped discover and nurture outstanding speakers, many of whom have gone on to achieve excellent results while representing Tsinghua in municipal, national, and international speech competitions.
