Course Description:

China Overview is a compulsory 2-credit course (32 teaching hours) for international undergraduate students offered by the Tsinghua University Language Centre. Each spring semester, 6-7 parallel classes are offered, with a class size of 30 students.

The course adheres to the fundamental goal of moral education and reflects Tsinghua University’s educational philosophy. The objective of the course is to cultivate high-level international talents who understand, appreciate, and develop an affinity for China. The course enhances international students’ understanding and recognition of Chinese culture and society, and it aims to improve cross-cultural understanding and communication skills, fostering global competence.

The course is organized around thematic modules, exploring topics such as Chinese history, geography, economy, culture, and science & technology. It employs inquiry-based teaching methods to encourage independent exploration, teamwork, and hands-on practice. Digital and intelligent teaching tools are used to make the learning process more personalized, efficient, and interactive.

This course was recognized in 2025 as a Model Course on Chinese National Conditions for International Students by Beijing’s higher education institutions. The course coordinator is Dr. Mu Lei.
